Emphasis during class time will be primarily focussed on training the body and mind with the goal of preparing the student to learn performance pieces. Class will be conducted with meticulous focus on laying a strong foundation for subsequent levels.
The students will be taught to apply this training through a performance item:
Swarajathi. Through this swarajathi, the knowledge of the basic positions of dance will be mastered, the understanding of stories and the understanding of ragam and thalam will be imparted.
The monotony of repetitiveness required to build a solid foundation will be creatively broken up through introduction of other pieces, like bollywood songs. Through the movements used in these songs the students will acquire knowledge of spatial and body awareness, while developing a sense of rhythm in an engaging manner and intuitively transfer this to other pieces.
